Volunteer Opportunities may include:
- Direct interaction with children and adults with special needs.
- Assisting with meal-prep in the kitchen
- Serving dinner at Summer Camp Cookouts (including set-up and clean-up)
- Leading or coordinating a craft, nature or sports and games activity
- Maintain and improve the camp grounds
- Assist with fundraising events
- Help with camp clean-up events
- Organizing and clean-up of program areas
- Assist during holiday parties - running craft stations or by donating items.
With respite programs offered 1-2 times a month, a sibling program, and summer camps in Summit and Portage counties, there are more than enough opportunities to be involved in the fun! If you would like to work directly with campers, we ask that you complete a volunteer application and provide 3 references. Volunteers, 18 and older, must have a background check before they are allowed to work around children. The Akron Area YMCA offers background checks at no cost to volunteers. Results must be received before work on site is allowed.
Volunteer Eligibility Criteria:
- To work independently, volunteers must be at least 15 years of age, or going into Freshman year of High School, or younger individuals can volunteer with a guardian.
- Completion of the screening process, which includes:
- Volunteer application
- Provide 3 references
- Must be able to attend volunteer orientation
- Signed volunteer acknowledgement and agreement
- Be able to follow directions, work independently and provide support to staff.
- Anyone over 18 that would like to volunteer with campers, must complete a background check.
